La Universal is an Ecuadorian confectionery manufacturer based in Guayaquil, operating since 1889. The company produces chocolates, cocoa powder, candies, wafers, and cookies using 100% Ecuadorian cacao. Its portfolio includes nationally recognized brands such as Manicho, Cocoa Universal, Huevitos, Menta Glacial, Osito, Zambo, and El Bandido. The factory on Eloy Alfaro street has been the production center since 1926. In 2005 the company was acquired by Grupo Nobis under Isabel Noboa, relaunched as Universal Sweet Industries S.A., and later integrated into BIA Brands, a multilatino food holding, in 2018. The company exports to several Latin American countries and the United States.
