Description

This handmade mate gourd is hand-turned from a single block of palo santo (Bulnesia sarmientoi), a dense aromatic hardwood prized across the Southern Cone for its natural resistance to moisture and its warm cinnamon scent that lingers in the wood. The stout silhouette gives the mate a wide base for stability on a table and a comfortable wall thickness that retains the temperature of the infusion. Each piece is carved by Argentine artisans, sanded smooth, and finished with food-safe linseed oil. Wood grain, knots, and small natural marks are part of the character of every gourd and confirm that no two pieces are identical. Recommended cure before first use: fill with damp yerba and warm water, let rest 24 hours, then empty and dry. With basic care, a palo santo mate lasts decades and develops a deep amber patina.
